Leica M6
This M6 had probably seen better days.
It was no longer functional, mechanically blocked, electronics unresponsive.
Dismantling and repairing the upper and lower mechanical parts unblocked the shutter.
The cell showed no signs of life. Observing and dismantling the speed selector
showed that during a previous intervention, a weld had been made too thick, causing a short circuit,
and that one of the brushes was broken, stuck between the track and the rotating part of the selector.
Obviously, changing this part is the simplest solution, if it is possible to have it…
In the absence of a part, a repair was necessary, the last chance attempt!
The broken brush was placed in the right position using a wooden support (toothpick) and tape.
A little nail polish to stiffen the whole thing, all that was left was to solder.
Surface preparation, flux, solder as fine as possible.
But, it wasn’t over, there was also a small variable resistor that had to be re-soldered.
After that, a partial reassembly and a test … The cell works again, the diodes light up in the viewfinder !!
Shutter speed settings, cell calibration, final reassembly …
